The Alumni Achievement Award is presented to Michael Yong-Haron (class of 2008, KH10), former CEO Hong Kong & North Asia Head at BNP Paribas Wealth Management. Michael has had a successful career in private banking since 1997 and has held leadership positions in Standard Chartered Bank, Royal Bank of Canada and Credit Suisse.
At BNP Paribas, he led a team of 400 employees based in Hong Kong, serving a broad clientele of entrepreneurs and high net-worth families.
Michael is also recognized for his service to the wealth management industry in Hong Kong, where he was elected to serve as an Executive Committee member of the Private Wealth Management Association.
He also served as a Board of Director at the Credit Reference Platform Limited, which is responsible for the implementation and operation of the credit reference platform for the financial industry in Hong Kong using distributed ledger technology.
Michael is a community builder who is passionate about giving back to his alma mater, Kellogg-HKUST, where he served as an Ambassador of the program, co-founder of the Asia Society-KH Leadership series, a Court Member and Member of the Institutional Advancement Outreach Committee of HKUST. He is also the Chairman of the Anniversary Committee of the Li Po Chun United World College and supports the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
Furthermore, Michael is a passionate supporter of arts and culture, where he founded the Michael and Saniza Collection, which has one of the world’s largest art collections of Yong Mun Sen, the legendary Nanyang artist. Overall, Michael’s dedication to the wealth management industry, community building, support of Kellogg-HKUST, and contributions towards arts and culture make him a deserving recipient of the Alumni Achievement Award.
