Kellogg-HKUST EMBA is proud to present Mike Gault with a Distinguished Alumni Award.

Born in Belfast, North Ireland, Gault attended York University for his bachelor’s in engineering and gained his Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Wales. His research interest was on “Numerical Analysis of Advanced Semiconductor Devices”.

When Gault applied to the KH program in 2008, he was the Managing Director of Barclay’s Capital in Tokyo, and he had a role in non-linear trading in Japan. He mentioned he also had a business in blue-fin tuna fish farming, and that he was the founder and chairman of one of the world’s largest exporters of farmed blue-fin tuna. They would catch young tuna, rear them in the South Mexican Sea and sell them to Japanese market when the tunas become sizeable.

Gault is currently the CEO and Founder of Guardtime. Guardtime’s KSI Blockchain platform is used in production around the world for enterprise, telecom, and government solutions. The company was founded in Estonia in 2007, where its products are used to underpin Estonian digital society. Guardtime has helped build many solutions with industry partners, some examples include GDPR compliance, physical anti-counterfeit, marine insurance data exchange, physical supply chain track and trace, digital content management, software lifecycle management, critical infrastructure protection and health-care interoperability. Prior to founding Guardtime, Gault spent 10 years in financial services as a quantitative analyst and derivatives trader.

Three KH alumni are currently running Guardtime’s operations in the US, China, and Singapore.
